Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
Sharmina qualified in 1998 from University College, London. She joined the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2002 where she completed her Ophthalmology training; followed by higher sub-specialist training in Cataract Surgery, Corneal Surgery & External Eye Disease. She became a full-time Consultant in 2013.

She has been a member of the Curriculum Sub-Committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists since 2015. She gained her MSc in Medical Education in 2017 from University College London; her thesis focused on ‘work-based assessments in post-graduate Cataract Surgery training’.
Moorfields Private Eye Hospital, is the City of London based private division of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Its financial surplus is re-invested back into Moorfields to support both NHS and Private services.
Moorfields has been recognised as being outstanding for surgical services by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in March 2019.
Inspectors commented that the care within surgical services for patients is “innovative” and provides “excellent emotional and practical support to patients.” Staff were praised for their compassionate care and the report highlighted that feedback from patients confirmed that staff were “caring and treated them with kindness.”
Sharmina Khan works with her Specialist Optometrist, Mr Shakti Vyas and Practice Manager, Mrs Paula Jessup on the 4th floor of Moorfields Private Eye Hospital, 9-11 Bath Street, London EC1V 9LF; with access to pre- and post-operative imaging and lasers.
Cataract/lens replacement surgery is carried out at Moorfields Eye Hospital at 162 City Road, London EC1V 2PD.
Sharmina Khan also consults clients with blepharitis, chalazions (lid styes) and dry eye. She has access to same- day minor operations facilities.
